Bluesfest 2013 A Huge Success

Chris Isaak

The 2013 Bluesfest, now in it’s 24th year was held at Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm over the Easter Long Weekend and what a legendary weekend it was!

The 5 days of entertainment were a diverse musical celebration, with over 1,000 artists over 7 stages. Some of the highlights of the spectacular performances came from The Cat Empire, Ben Harper, Iggy and The Stooges, Santana, Chris Isaack, Bonnie Raitt, Status Quo, Fat Freddy’s Drop and the powerful Paul Simon who closed the festival on the final day.

The energetic crowd kept the festival in full flight and for all who were involved including the staff, stall holders, media, contractors and stake holders, all played a vital part in the huge success of this year’s event, which had a total of over 104,000 people attend.

We would like to thank our fantastic partners for delivering some great brand activation to this year’s event in particular Jim Beam, Berocca, Deezer, Bundaburg, Somersby and Virgin Mobile.

The question now remains what BIG surprises will be in stall next year as part of the 25th anniversary celebration! So, if you thinking about spending your Easter in beautiful Byron Bay at the world’s largest blues and roots festival get in early as this one will be one not to be missed!

Former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant has been announced as the 2013 event's first megastar drawcard.

Plant, voted the best lead singer of all time by Rolling Stone readers last year, will top what promoter, Peter Noble, predicts could be his ''best-ever'' line-up. And that's with three more headliners still to be announced.

Noble told The Sun-Herald Plant's group, the Sensational Space Shifters, would play Led Zeppelin songs in a 90-minute Bluesfest set on March 30 next year. Led Zeppelin broke up in 1980 after the death of drummer John Bonham. Plant, pictured, last toured Australia 14 years ago, with former Zeppelin lead guitarist Jimmy Page.

Noble describes Plant as ''up there with the greatest artists to have played Bluesfest''. James Brown is his number one.

''Robert Plant is rock royalty. Getting people like that to come out when they don't need to takes many years,'' says Noble. ''The only act I could put on that would have impressed my kids more would have been Psy. But they went 'Robert Plant! That's as big as it gets'.''

The other new additions to the 24th Bluesfest are 1980s English ska popsters Madness, 1970s boogie rockers Status Quo, ex-Supertramp singer/songwriter Roger Hodgson and YES lead singer, Jon Anderson. They join an already impressive line-up including the Bluesfest favourite Ben Harper, Latin jazz-rockers Santana, proto punksters Iggy and the Stooges, FM radio giants the Steve Miller Band, R&B legend Mavis Staples, reggae star Jimmy Cliff and blues-rock queen Bonnie Raitt. More than 100,000 tickets are expected to be sold for the five-day event.
