Spark to bring big sounds to Kiwi music lovers

Spark is partnering with Live Nation Entertainment, and event promoters C3 Presents and CRS Presents to bring Auckland's newest music festival, Auckland City Limits, to Western Springs Stadium in March next year.

Spark’s support of the event follows the digital services provider’s wider move into the music space, which involves strategic partnerships with Spotify, Live Nation and Rhythm & Vines.

Spark GM of Marketing, Clive Ormerod, says the event is about music fans coming together: “Hanging out with mates and family is part of the quintessential Kiwi summer – made even better with music. Festivals like this let us do that together on a big, exciting scale. They also provide a national stage for New Zealand’s own talent, and attract top international acts.

“Over the past year we’ve helped tens of thousands of people enjoy priority access and unforgettable moments with their favourite artists. With Auckland City Limits we’ll be doing that again – giving customers the opportunity to get closer to the music they love and to discover new artists.”

Ormerod says Spark will provide engaging and personal experiences for customers at Auckland City Limits, and will be revealing these exciting plans in the coming months.

The one day festival on 19 March 2016 promises a full line-up of over 40 local and international acts. The first announcement of artists will be 3 November.

Campbell Smith from CRS Presents says, "We want to produce a live music festival experience that is memorable and spectacular, created and curated specifically for Auckland".

The event is aligned with the Austin City Limits festival, launched in 2002 in Austin, Texas. Charlie Walker of C3 Presents, promoters of the Austin event, believes the format will work well in Auckland. He says, "New Zealand offers an incredibly rich musical and cultural foundation to deliver a world-class festival that Auckland can be proud of."

Spark will offer customers exclusive presales to Auckland City Limits through its Spark Thanks programme on Thursday 5 November at 9am. For more information, music lovers can head to

All Five Original Band Members Back Together

Fleetwood Mac

The rumours are true - the legendary FLEETWOOD MAC will bring their On With The Show World Tour to Australia and New Zealand in 2015.

The On With The Show World Tour will mark Fleetwood Mac's first series of concert dates in Australia and New Zealand since 2009's sold-out Unleashed Tour.

Touring as a five-piece for the first time since 1998, one of music's most enduring groups of all time. Fleetwood Mac, will play a selection of arena, stadium and winery shows this October - November.

All five original band members are back together, with Christine McVie rejoining band mates Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks after a 16-year absence.

The news of Fleetwood Mac's return is particularly welcomed by Australian and New New Zealand fans after the band were unfortunately forced to cancel their sold-out 2013 dates.

The On With The Show World Tour will see Fleetwood Mac on stage for close to two and a half hours, showcasing hits and classic songs from their career that spans more than four decades and global album sales in excess of 100 million, including songs such as: 'The Chains', 'Dreams', 'Second Hand News', 'Rihannon', 'Sara', 'Gold Dust Woman', 'Tusk', 'Looking Out For Love', 'Don't Stop', 'Go Your Own Way'.... and the list goes on and on.

Tickets for all shows go on sale at 10am on Wednesday April 1.

My Live Nation members can also be among the first to secure tickets during the pre-sale beginning at midday on Friday March 27 in New Zealand and midday Monday March 30 in Australia. For complete details visit:

Fleetwood Mac's sold out shows throughout North America have garnered rave reviews.

"The principal emotion during the nearly 2 and a half hour performance was the joy of having keyboardist McVie back in this group... She brought high harmonies and several songs, including 'Little Lies', 'You Make Loving Fun' and the closing 'Songbird', back into the repertoire. Nicks hasnt sounded this good since the early 90's. What a rhythm machine and what an articulate emotional guitarist Buckingham is". - Minneapolis Star Tribune

"It's still magical. Between Buckingham's epic guitar solos, Mick Fleetwood's massive drumming, John McVie's strong bass work, Nick's patented spins to puctuate the lovely, 'Gypsy' and Christine McVie's lush vocals, Fleetwood Mac looked ready to take on what Buckingham has called 'the next chapter'" - Newsday

"Fleetwood Mac has the intricacy, elegance and underlying punch of it's songs.." - The New York Times

"With Christine's songs back in the set, her calm, angular presence back on the stage, there was an undeniable feeling of rejuvenation... Fleetwood and John McVie on bass reminded concert-goers why the band is named for them. They still put a layer of muscle behind everything the band did. Buckingham was ferocious and tireless as lead guitar. This man is a vital musical presence - the soul of the band. Ditto for the vitality of Nicks, its cauldron-stirring spirit... Her showcase songs, 'Landslide', 'Gold Dust Woman', and, especially 'Silver Springs', were the night's highlights" - Chicago Tribune

Madonna to tour Australia for the first time in 23 years!

It has been almost a quater of a century since her last performance on Australian soil - now, at the age of 56, Madonna is set to return as part of her Rebel Heart tour. Billboard has confirmed that the living for Love star will visit Asia and Australia in early 2016. She is touring to promote her 13th studio album, which will be released this week through Interscope Records.

The last time Madonna played to Australian audiences was in 1993, when her girlie show: Live Down Under tour rocked crowds at the Sydney Cricket Ground in what became an HBO special broadcast on television.

Dates have not been established for the Australian leg of the tour, however a statement on Madonna's website says they will be announced soon.

"Madonna continues to be one of the most successful touring artists in history - her shows are legendary and we are thrilled to have her going back on tour," Arthur Fogel, the president of Global Touring and chairman of Global Music, said.

As to touring Australia, Fogel told Billboard that it was "kind of bizarre when you think about it, like a superstar like that hasn't been to a pretty regular touring area for (almost) 25 years."

Madonna has garnered a reputation as one of the most successful live performers. Her 2008/2009 Sticky & Sweet tour is the highest grossing tour of all time for a solo artist.

The campaign from NSW Health, titled “Play Safe,” primarily targets young people aged 15 – 29 years to encourage responsible sexual behaviour and regular testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).

NSW Health’s activation will span Live Nation's concerts, online platforms, content and ticketing operations in Australia, with a focus on NSW-based audiences.

Dr Chris Bourne, head of the NSW Sexually Transmitted Infections Programs Unit, said: “Live Nation provides a fantastic opportunity to connect with young people, highlight the importance of sexual health and be part of their conversation about sex.”

“75% of STI notifications in NSW were reported in young people in the last year, so it’s a very big issue,’’ Dr Bourne said.

“We know from research with young people, that just being told to get tested for STIs and use condoms when having sex is not enough to improve sexual health. We need to do more.”

“Our partnership with Live Nation will enable us to promote the Play Safe messages directly to young people on this important area of their lives and health,” Dr Bourne said.

Michael Coppel, president and CEO of Live Nation Australia and New Zealand, said: “Live Nation wholeheartedly supports NSW Health in its endeavours to improve youth health outcomes. Through the power of Live Nation’s live music offering, NSW Health is able to connect with its key audience in a direct and engaging way. Live Nation is proud to join the movement and help spread the word about sexual health.”

Live Nation’s partnership with NSW Health is one of a limited number of exclusive brand partnerships Live Nation Australia and New Zealand will enter.

NSW Health joins Qantas, plus international partners American Express and Starwood Hotels and Resorts.

The partnership was brokered by Sydney-based entertainment partnerships agency, mixitup Australia, a Live Nation Australia and New Zealand joint-venture company.

Greg Segal, managing director of mixitup said: “Traditional media is failing to meaningfully connect with Millennials and Live Nation delivers a wide variety of music offerings and experiences that strongly resonate with the NSW Health target audience. Behavioural change is needed to ensure better health outcomes for our youth and it is a privilege to be working closely with NSW Health on this important challenge. Together we are literally harnessing the healing power of music!”
